Gravity Mageri Series Book 4 edition by Dannika Dark Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
After reading all the books in Dannika’s Mageri Series and the Seven Series all I can say is I loved both series and she is now one of my top Authors. . I’m looking forward to reading her latest series called Crossbreed. Both series were exciting, loving, humorous, and suspenseful and I even cried. Dannika’s humor is like no other and I found myself laughing out loud. She is such a clever word smithy. I apparently read the 2 series out of the recommend order. I read the Seven Series first and the Mageri Series second but it did not make any difference in the story telling. I was glad I read them in the order I did as I was left with a Big surprise and a very happy heart when I read the last book “The Gift” in the Mageri Series on the last pages. I was left with such a happy and satisfied feeling as the two series were connected in a special way that worked for me. I wish the series could have gone on forever as I loved the characters in both series. It was like having to say good-bye to friends you love. I highly recommend Dannika’s work and especially these two series.
This was another great book in the Mageri series. If you haven't read the three books that come before this one, you really need to start there. The author does go over key parts of the story, but to really do it justice you need the rich background and context that comes in the initial books. This installment sees Silver becoming more comfortable with who she is as a Mage, while still struggling with completely leaving the human world behind. As a result from a HALO investigation, we get to read more about Silver's genetic background, filling in a few of the blanks from previous books. Tarek returns with a vengeance, blackmailing Silver to accept his claim on her in order to completely break Logan. This had me frustrated at times, but the wind up ended up being worth it. Some of Silver's behaviour during these scenes was a little inconsistent with her strong character but the storyline travelled along well enough for me to forgive this for the most part. She didn't seem to use her powers a lot in this book either, which I found a little strange so I hope there's more of that in the future.
There is more in this book told by different characters and while I enjoyed this, I would have liked a bit more from Silver's point of view because she is just a great character. That being said, it was also a nice change to see what was going through the head of others in the story, particularly Justus. I found that his storyline really developed in this book as we see his insecurities and get to know him a little bit more. His relationship with Silver also continues to develop, becoming something really beautiful and special.
Overall, it was an entertaining read and I'm sad that there is only one more full length novel for me to read in this series. The doses of Logan I got in this book was not enough ) There was, once again, a little bit of everything mystery, comedy, action, suspense, romance and tragedy. I can't wait to read the next book.
I enjoyed the early books quite a bit. This book is too cliche at times. About a quarter of the way into the book Silver gets one of those 'Don't tell or else' ultimatums and listens to the bad guy. This is the 4th book and Silver still acts like a child. I expected her to be a bad ass mageri by now but she's still a victim. People want to do bad things to her do she STOPS training?! She has a mageri warrior for a Guardian and shows no interest in learning from him. She never practices using her light.
There are some inconsistencies in the book that made me wonder who edited the book. The story itself doesn't flow very well. The beginning and end with silver and Logan were good (the middle where Silver is just a huge idiot you can just skip. It's just bad) but then it cuts to Justus and Paige and that just kills any interest.
If I have nothing to read when book 5 comes out I may pick it up.
The Good This book is an emotional roller coaster! Dannika always makes us laugh, but this time there are some teary moments as well as feelings of anger, frustration and one scene in particular that's absolutely gut-wrenching. We are kept on the edge of our seats to see what happens next!
Silver blossoms as a character in this book. She's been prone to irrational behavior and decisions in the past, but this book demonstrates just how loyal and self-sacrificing she's become - it's wonderful to see! We find out even more about her roots in Gravity and what it may or may not mean for her future.
As usual we get great scenes with the whole Mageri crew. Logan is still by Silver's side and is as swoon-worthy as ever. Simon is as sweet and funny as always, but shows a seldom seen inner depth in this book. Christian is back again and snarky as ever, but also gives us a glimpse of his loyalty to his friends and his willingness to go above and beyond for someone in need. Justus fans - hold on to your seats! We get to see a whole new side to Justus in this book and it's wonderful to get some insight to a character that means a ton to us (and Silver), but yet doesn't always say a whole lot.
The Bad There are some plot twists that threw me off because some of the Mageri crew seem to be acting so far out of character. It was great for relationship and emotional development, but caused me to say `Huh??' a few times.
Christian as a bodyguard also seems rather pointless because he's so often incapacitated at crucial moments. However, maybe his charm makes up for it!
Bottom Line Fans of the Mageri series will eagerly gobble up and enjoy this latest and greatest installment!
Silver and Logan are separated by Turek the nasty chihta that killed Logan's first mate. There are so many hearts broken in this book it is a must to finish the series. Excellent continuity in events and characters.
